  16. <p>     Customs and Immigration: US citizens traveling as tourists do
  17. not need visas for stays of 14 days if they have an onward
  18. ticket. Visas are required for longer visits and for business
  19. travelers.
  20. </p>
  21. <p>     Climate and clothing: Wear lightweight clothing for most of
  22. the hot, wet period; medium weight clothing for the short winter
  23. (Dec.-Feb.).
  24. </p>
  25. <p>     Health: Health and visa requirements change; check latest
  26. information before traveling. Basic medical facilities are
  27. available in Dhaka. Pharmacies can fill simple prescriptions.
  28. Tetanus, typhoid, gamma globulin, and polio immunizations are
  29. recommended; malaria suppressants for travel outside of Dhaka
  30. also are recommended.

  32. <p>     Telecommunications: Internal and external telephone,
  33. telegraph, telex, and mail services are available. Direct
  34. dialing is possible to Western Europe and the United States.
  35. Bangladesh is 11 hours ahead of eastern standard time.

  37. <p>     Transportation: International and domestic airline service is
  38. adequate; railroad service is limited; road transport is crowded
  39. but adequate to most major cities; river transport is extensive.

  41. <p>     National holidays: Martyrs' Day, February 21; Independence
  42. Day, March 26; Bengali New Year's Day, April 15; May Day, May 1;
  43. National Integrity Day, November 7; Victory Day, December 16;
  44. Christmas Day, December 25; Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha, Muharram,
  45. Eid-i-Milad-un-Nabi, and other religious holidays, varying in
  46. accordance with the lunar calendar.
